Oklahoma McGirt Ruling

TRIBAL LEGAL SERVICES

______________________

WHAT IS THE MCGIRT RULING?

In 2020 a landmark case, McGirt V. Oklahoma redefined the borders of Indian reservation land in Oklahoma. This changes the way that Native American citizens are charged with crimes in Oklahoma. Prosecution of Native Americans falls into tribal and federal judiciary.

UNDERSTANDING MCGIRT

There are many questions surrounding what this ruling means for Native American citizens and non tribal members alike. The framework of this ruling seeks to restore jurisdiction questioned by the Supreme Courts ruling in the interest of promoting public safety on Indian reservation lands.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Since the passing of this ruling, Attorneys at Creek County Law have been registered to practice criminal and civil law with the Muskogee Creek Nation. This assures that we are able to serve our clients regardless of where their case is tried in the State of Oklahoma.
